Vintage Book Box

I created boxes from vintage books. I removed the cover from the pages and then cut the spine away. Because the cut edge for the front and back cover pieces looked ragged, I used some black masking tape to cover it up.

I used black foam mat for the box sides. I cut the four sides to the sizes I wanted, and used bookbinding glue to glue sides to the cover and glue the corners together. Once it dried, I used black masking tape to cover the corner edges.

To keep things simple, the box lid is a piece that is placed on top of the box. I cut a piece of black foam board and glued it to the back side of the front book cover piece so the lid wouldn’t slide off the top. The box isn’t the sturdiest of boxes, but it turned out pretty cute. I used the book boxes as packaging for gifts.

I thought these old tennis rackets were awesome.

I wasn’t entirely sure what this item was for but it looked interesting. I thought it was for cooking since it looks like a pan on a long stick.

I liked this book cover illustration.

I really liked these Japanese wooden nesting boxes.

I considered getting this Star Trek glass because I thought it was amusing—but resisted.

Thrifted for $11.25

I got this brand new (tags still on it) H&M button down white shirt for $4. It’s not the most exciting shirt, but it’s a good basic to have.

I do not need more boxes…at all. But they are my weakness. My kryptonite. I got these two slide boxes that feel very 1970s to me.

The large one was $2. It has two levels to it.

The small slide box was $1.50.

I got four silver tins for $1. I thought I could use them for gift boxes if I couldn’t find a reason to use them for myself.

I got a Cuisinart frying pan for $2.

I bought Janet Jackson’s Design of a Decade cd for 25 cents. It had some songs I was missing—like “Nasty” and “What have you done for me lately?”

And I got the My Fair Lady soundtrack for 50 cents. I really like the music—it’s fun and has good lyrics.

I liked this vintage Brother sewing machine.

And it had a cute tin to go with it.

I thought this box was pretty cute.

I loved the cover of this old book.

And I liked these yellow gloves…but I wouldn’t have a reason to wear them.

And this menthol tin is super cute.

I liked the fun drawings on this container.

I also liked this graphic vintage mini-switch motor box.

Finally, a Chinese tea tin that was pretty nice.

I thought these old slides were really interesting. They looked to be religious in nature—lots of buildings of churches.

I thought this round cutting board was awesome. Okay, I just like the packaging…but you can’t use the cutting board with the packaging still on it.

Cute Kellogg’s breakfast bowl. It looks more retro than it really is—it’s from 1995.

A Suzy Homemaker oven.

A Polaroid bag—cute but in poor condition.

And a wooden box with leather straps. This I considered buying. I love wood and I love boxes, and here it is—all in one! But I resisted…good for me! [Pat on back.]

Syringe Wooden Box

My coworker gave me this cool wooden box because he knows I love old things. It’s quite nondescript from the outside—just a plain wooden box (with the latch missing).

But once it’s opened, it has information about Alpha Fountain Syringe and a nice illustration. The only downside to this box is that it has a strange smell that’s slightly medicinal.

Things I Didn’t Buy 30

I love the side of this artichoke crate.

And these Icicle wooden crates are quite nice.

I considered getting one of these pop crates, but decided I didn’t need them. And they were sooooo gross. I don’t mind the dirt so much, but there were so many open spider egg sacks.

This Pop Pom cigar box was cute.

And this Atlas train track packaging just amused me.

Things I Didn’t Buy 25

Here are some kitchen related items that I thought were interesting. I didn’t need these ping pong bowls…at all. I just thought they were highly amusing.

Next up, I thought about getting this recipe box. I love the art on it (although it annoyingly didn’t quite close properly).

I liked the animal art on this pressure cooker.

I thought this Scout-O-Rama mug was cute.

And this Columbia Pacific Council mug was nice as well.
