DIY: Paper Circle Christmas Ornament

I realize that Christmas is still somewhat far off (and I know have complained before about how early Christmas paraphernalia starts showing up in stores), but I’ve decided to post a Christmas project anyway (because sometimes you can’t control when you have ideas).

This is a very simple flat circle paper ornament that’s easy to make and easy to personalize.

SUPPLIES

• Colored paper
• Chipboard
• Glue (I used Modge Podge with a paint brush)
• Circle punch (mine is 2 inches in diameter)
• Ribbon
• Scissors
• Hole punch

DIRECTIONS

With the circle punch, cut out the desired number of circles.

I punched one circle from the chipboard and two from gold cardstock. My gold cardstock was only sparkly on one side and wasn’t as thick as I wanted, so I decided to glue the three circles together to create a stiffer ornament. But it depends on the paper you use if you think this is necessary to do or not.

Apply glue to the chipboard circle and place a cardstock circle on top. Repeat on the other side of the chipboard circle.

If desired, glue colored paper to the circle. I added a strip of paper across the middle because it reminded me of how a glass ornament might look. Repeat on the back if desired.

With scissors, cut away any excess paper from the circle’s edges.

Punch a hole at the top of the circle.

Cut a length of ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the punched hole and tie the ends together. Paper Circle Christmas Ornament complete. Hang the ornament on a Christmas tree.

Use whatever paper you happen to have on hand. I used metallic cardstock and origami paper, but also consider scrapbooking paper, construction paper, wrapping paper, photographs, postcards—basically any colorful scrap paper you may have.

In the first photo, I just relied on the fancy silver metallic glitter paper to do all the decorative work for me (instead of gluing extra paper on top of the circle)—which of course is faster and easier.
