I bought a bag of cheap plastic black and white buttons and thought I could make button magnets with them. Of course if you like your button as-is then all you have to do is glue the button to the magnet; I wasn’t excited about my nondescript buttons so I wanted to dress them up a little bit with color.
SUPPLIES
- Flat backed button (that is larger than the magnet)
- Round magnet (mine is 0.5 inch in diameter)
- Strong glue
- Paint (I used acrylic paint and nail polish)
- Paintbrush and/or sponge (I used a cosmetic sponge)
- Paint tray (or any piece of plastic; e.g. washed out TV dinner plate or plastic lid)
- Newspaper (or any type of paper to cover your work area)
DIRECTIONS
— 1 —
Squeeze acrylic paint onto the paint tray. Using your paintbrush, paint the button in whatever way you find pleasing (and it may take a couple of coats for the paint to look even). If you’re using multiple colors, you may want to wait for the first color to dry before applying another color.
— 2 —
Apply glue to magnet.
— 3 —
Place button on top of the glue, keeping the button centered over the magnet. Button magnet complete.
I applied gold acrylic paint with a sponge over a black button. |
I used nail polish as my paint in this button magnet. |
