Happy Unbirthday Card – Rectangular

I got my happy unbirthday card printed and I’m pretty satisfied by the way it turned out. Some of you may recall that I had created a square happy unbirthday card some months ago, but I had to change the format of the card because of the printing size options available. And I think the changes turned out for the better (since there’s more white space and the weight of the text is at the bottom of the card now).

While the card can be used as-is as a little note, I thought it would be nice to show a few extra ways the card could be used. So here are some tag and card options:

PUNCH TAG

— 1 —

Punch a hole at the top of the card.

— 2 —

Cut a length of string (longer than the height of the card; my string is about 10 inches long) and knot the two ends together.

— 3 —

Slide the knotted string through the hole. Take one end of the string and thread it through the loop created by the other end of the string; pull taut. Tag complete.

SIDE SLIT TAG

— 1 —

With a pencil and ruler, measure and mark where you want your slits to be (I did mine about 0.5 inch from the top of the card and about 0.375 inch from each of the sides).

— 2 —

With an x-acto knife and ruler, cut the two slits. (Alternatively, just cut two slits on the side of the card with a pair of scissors.)

— 3 —

Cut a length of string. Wrap the string around the card, passing through each of the slits. 

— 4 —

Double knot the string in the back. Attach the tag to a package (and knot to secure).

 EXTRA-MINI CARD

—1 —

Fold card in half. Extra-mini card complete.

I attached this extra-mini card to a notebook cover by using removable double-sided tape.

SLIT TAG

— 1 —

Cut out a piece of cardstock larger than the tag (I cut mine at 3 inch by 4.25 inch).

— 2 —

Decide where you want your card to be (mine was centered, with a 0.5 inch margin all around, except at the top which ad 0.75 inch margin) and trace the card with a pencil.

— 3 —

Draw diagonal lines at each of the corners that are slightly longer than the card shape.

— 4 —

With a ruler and x-acto knife cut diagonal lines. Erase pencil marks. Turn cardstock over.

— 5 —

Punch hole at the top of the cardstock with a hole puncher. (I also used a rounded corner punch on each of the corners of the cardstock.)

— 6 —

Slide card into each diagonal slit.

— 7 —

Cut a length of string and knot ends together. Slide the knotted string through the hole. Take one end of the string and thread it through the loop created by the other end of the string; pull taut. Tag complete.

MINI CARD

— 1 —

Cut a piece of cardstock that’s larger than the card (mine was 3.5 inch by 5 inch).

— 2 —

With a pencil and ruler, measure and mark the middle (mine is at 2.5 inch).

— 3 —

With a stylus and ruler, crease the cardstock. (Note: for those who may not know, a stylus is a tool that you use like a pencil but the tips are metal; it indents paper so it folds more cleanly.) Fold cardstock in half.

— 4 —

Using a gluestick, glue the card (centered) to the cardstock. Mini card complete.
