Things I Didn’t Buy 68

I thought about getting this Runaway Corpse book…mostly because it’s a Perry Mason book. I haven’t actually ever read one of these books, but I watched the TV show back in the day. I thought the cover was interesting.

I liked the fun illustration of This Week Magazine.

And I liked the simplicity of The Invisible Man book cover.

I loved the book cover for The House at Pooh Corner.

I liked the simple sword illustration for With Wolfe in Canada.

Things I Didn’t Buy 47

I liked these two prints by Margo Alexander. They were framed (and rather banged up), but the art was really pretty. Very 1950s. I liked the colors and the brush strokes.

A couple of Kentucky Tavern ads.

I like that this ad has this line at the bottom: There’s only one better buy in bonds…savings bonds!

An Old Dutch Cleanser ad from The Ladies’ Home Journal from 1924.

And a Pepsi ad from the 1950s. On your wedding day, choose Pepsi over champagne. Okay, the ad doesn’t say that, but it does want you to have a “light” refreshment with fewer calories. [Pause.] It’s my opinion that counting calories is the last people want to be doing at a wedding.

Here are some 1950s ads I saw in a Life magazine. I thought this Pan American ad was interesting using Norman Rockwell art.

A Rexall ad—I just like seeing the toys from back in the day.

And I really like this Peter Pan Little X girdle ad. Super simple and graphic.

Things I Didn’t Buy 17

Although it didn’t have a cover, I found what looked like a Life magazine from WWII. I had to take some photos of some of the ads in it. First is this Shell ad that states: “It’s sweeter because of petroleum.” Really?

I just thought the illustration on this Ductillite ad was interesting.

This Prem ad shows ways to dress up your canned ham.

Very patriotic-looking International Trucks ad.

I tend the find cigarette ads rather fascinating because the perception of cigarettes are so different today than they once were. Here’s a Lucky Strike cigarette ad.

Vintage Binder Accessories

I don’t crochet or embroider, but I can appreciate the time and effort it takes to create these intricate items. From the vintage binder I bought, here are some bags and hats that I thought were interesting (but would never need or wear). This backpack is so 1970s.

And these little purses are cute.

I like the big tassel on this crochet hat.

And these are nice airy designs for the hair net and purse.

Finally, I’m not really a fan of the little hat, but I like the bag.

Vintage Binder Articles

I was at a thrift store and stumbled upon this awesome vintage binder; I love the design on the cover. I like the colors, the geometric shapes, the fonts—everything is just so retro. I bought it for $2.

It’s a huge binder and filled with selected magazine articles; it’s someone’s collection of things they thought worth keeping over the years. There are some recipes, but it’s mostly craft articles: crochet, sewing and DIY gifts. It’s rather interesting to see the range of articles that are mostly from the 1960s and 1970s.

Here are some of the articles that caught my eye. I thought these play boxes were interesting.

I like these crochet white pillows. They have lovely elaborate patterns, but are still very simple being white on white.

These pillow dolls are amusing.

And I liked this article of how to stretch your fashion dollars by buying quality clothes you can mend and alter.

Finally, the cover of Woman’s Day that shows hairstyles from 1966.
