I really liked this 1950s dress pattern. Sooooo cute. I love the way they worked the red stripe dress and the navy dress is so adorable.

This 1950s dress and jacket was pretty nice.

I liked this 1960s simple top and skirt pattern as well.

This 1970s long robe is awesome (although I could do without the lace trim).

These 1970s separates were nice.

Finally, this 1970s wedding dress is fantastic. I love the sleeves, the high collar and the buttons down the front. The bridesmaid’s dress I mostly like—I’m just not a fan of that collar.

Things I Didn’t Buy 47

I liked these two prints by Margo Alexander. They were framed (and rather banged up), but the art was really pretty. Very 1950s. I liked the colors and the brush strokes.

A couple of Kentucky Tavern ads.

I like that this ad has this line at the bottom: There’s only one better buy in bonds…savings bonds!

An Old Dutch Cleanser ad from The Ladies’ Home Journal from 1924.

And a Pepsi ad from the 1950s. On your wedding day, choose Pepsi over champagne. Okay, the ad doesn’t say that, but it does want you to have a “light” refreshment with fewer calories. [Pause.] It’s my opinion that counting calories is the last people want to be doing at a wedding.

Things I Didn’t Buy 46

I love this 1950s dress. It would take a lot of fabric to make this dress—the skirt has a lot of pleats in it.

This 1950s dress is pretty cute.

I liked the full skirt on this 1950s skirt pattern.

These 1960s tops are nice and simple.

And I liked these 1960s tops as well.

Finally, this 1960s top, skirt and jacket are quite nice.

Here are some nice causal dresses.

Vintage Wool Dress

I bought this wool dress at a thrift store for $10. I didn’t need it. Perhaps I shouldn’t have got it. But it was interesting…

The dress looks to be from the 1950s. It has kimono sleeves (which makes the top feel a bit large on me). It sort of fits. But I love all the details the dress has. I love the cute little collar. I like the buttons down the front. I adore the decorative stitching the top has (that goes all the way around). I love the pleated skirt. And the color is nice.

The dress needs some mending. It has maybe two small holes, the buttons are a little loose, and the sleeve stitching may need to be fixed. Truthfully, this warm wool dress isn’t the most useful of dresses (just because it’s only really cold a few months out of the year). But I would totally wear this dress…once I get around to fixing it.

I love all of these navy outfits.

Some nice plaid dresses (I like the yellow one), but I’d probably wear any of the three rippled cotton dresses on the right.

I love the blue sari-inspired dress, as well as the mustard yellow dress with the cute print.

I really like that red dress.

Cute floral print dresses.

Nice shirt dresses—I love the navy one.

I like the outfit on the right with the little bow.

And while these are all nice, I like the polka dot one in particular.

And the second one from the left—I love that little bolo jacket.

I think there are some cute outfits here, but that one second in from the left is just too much. Bows everywhere.

1956 Sears Catalog: Set 1

I was at a thrift store and couldn’t help but buy this Sears catalog from spring and summer of 1956. It was $4, and I love looking at all the vintage clothing.

 

I like the fun prints they often use on the skirts.

The cover of the catalog isn’t much to look at, but I suppose it’s informative.
