Bought for $6.73

I got this blue dress for $0.98. It looks like it’s from the 1980s. It’s a nice shade of blue with a texture pattern to it. I like the cut of the dress and thought it fit well. It’s totally within the style of Golden Girls…and I’m okay with that.

I bought this Tupperware measuring cup for $0.25. I thought the numbers were really interesting.

I got this pink and gray belt for $1.

And these fabrics for $3.50.

Thrifted for $12.62

For $2.50, I bought this awesome aqua sweater that seems like it’s from the 1970s. It’s not a cozy sweater—it’s made of acrylic yarn that’s a bit scratchy, but I think it’s so cute. I love the cut of it, and I like the knit pattern and the blouse-like sleeves. Adorable.

I spent a total of $10.12 on the next items at a pay-by-the-pound thrift store. I’m drawn towards utilitarian items—like this plastic crate. I love the slate gray color, as well as the geometric pattern of the crate. It was fairly heavy (which accounted for most of the final cost of everything), and it was kind of gross. It had a lot of dirt on it and open spider eggs. Ewww…

I got this black belt, because it doesn’t hurt to have a spare one.

And I got this blue and white cotton fabric that’s perhaps shy of a yard. And this cute cotton floral retro-looking pattern that’s probably around a fat quarter.

I also got this Fire-King casserole dish that matches the style of my mixing bowls.

Thrifted for $11

I bought this black silk Banana Republic skirt for $4. I love the diagonal detail at the top and the basic structure of the skirt.

I got this black leather belt for $2. I’m not sure I love the gold buckle, but I wanted a new black belt since my old one is dying…

Finally, I bought a piece of navy fabric that’s about 2 yards for $2. I liked the drape of the fabric and navy is one of my all-time favorite colors to wear.

And I got this pair of navy and white canvas Land’s End sandals for $3. They are a half size too large for me, but I thought I’d see how comfortable they were. [Pause.] Some days after I took this photo I tried to wear these sandals and realized that they just weren’t comfortable for me. So I donated them to a thrift store. [Sigh.] It’s always a bit sad when I buy something that I don’t end up liking as much as I thought I would.

$20 at an Estate Sale

I went to an estate sale that had an overwhelming amount of stuff. My favorite item is this vintage Lewis tan purse that I got for $12. It’s so simple and cute.

I also got this sea foam green thin belt for $2. I think it will add a nice pop of color to outfits.

And I bought this navy and white Liberty Bell scarf for $2.

I couldn’t resist this forest green Union toolbox for $4. I didn’t need another toolbox (this is my third), but I just like toolboxes…I think I have a problem. [Sigh.]

Thrifted for $2.82

I picked up items at two places: a church sale and a pay-by-the-pound Goodwill. At the church sale, I got a children’s book, Timothy Slept On. It’s exactly what it sounds like; a boy (who likes to sleep in), just doesn’t wake up no matter what the townspeople do to rouse him.

This book is from 1964 and I adore the illustrations. They are awesome. I bought this book for 50 cents.

I also bought this glass jar for $1. I liked the fleur de lis marks on it. It’s simple and cute; I thought I could use it to store food supplies.

At the pay-by the-pound Goodwill I got some unnecessarily items for $1.32. First I got this red Pendleton sweater. [Pause.] Now I’m having second thoughts about it…and I’m thinking it’s going in the donate pile.

I also got a gray and red belt.

And finally I got this Old Navy Love More shirt. I would never wear it in public since I avoid wearing anything that has words with any sort of “message” or logo on it. I only bought it so I could wear it at home.

$5.50 at an Estate Sale

I got a few things at an estate sale. First up, a vintage Bingo game for $2.

There were actually two sets of cards and wooden numbers inside. I would like to do a project with these items…at some point in time.

Next, I got a black leather belt that has a braided elastic section in the back for $2.50. I was in desperate need of a black belt as my old one (that I’ve had for at least ten years) is about to break in half…literally.

Finally, I got a set of four little container boxes that are shaped as books for $1.

Annoyingly, the price stickers were placed on the front, so when I peeled them off, it took off some of the ink. The brilliant thing to do would have to put those price stickers on the back as it was blank…but sometimes people just aren’t that brilliant. [Sigh.].

Thrifted Skirt and Belt

It’s been hot in Oregon recently. And when it’s hot, and you don’t have air conditioning, you tend to go somewhere that does. So I did some thrift shopping, not because I needed anything, but because I wanted to be somewhere cool. In the end, I got two things: a skirt and a belt.

I don’t need any more skirts because I have many. Some have been on my “alter” list for a while now (and I’ve just been too lazy to do it). However, it’s nice to have a skirt that fits from the get-go. I got this black wool pencil skirt for $3.49. It’s such a basic skirt that it should go well with many of my tops.

The second item I got was this gold belt for $1.49. It’s a thin simple metal belt that has a nice looking clasp. I love that it’s a stretch material so I can wear it fitted around my waist. I think it’s really cute.

Thrifted for $5.74

Recently, I got a few random thrifted items. I got this thermometer at an estate sale for $1. I thought it was really cute and liked the happy yellow color.

The serving fork, meat thermometer and measuring spoons I got at one thrift shop for a grand total of 50 cents.

I got this gray belt at another thrift shop for $1.49. I really like the braided gray elastic material—it’s awesome. It stretches to fit your waist and you can put the prong through any part of the belt.

At another thrift store I bought 1.375 yards of black and white fabric for $2.75. It’s a thicker fabric (perhaps meant for upholstery); I liked the graphic nature of it. It was rolled up and I didn’t take the time to unroll it because I was in a time crunch. When I opened at home, I saw there were some stains—which totally sucked. But I’m hoping I can just use sections of the fabric to make something.

Thrifted for $11.97

I went to a couple of thrift stores and got a few things. First up, I got two sewing patterns for 50 cents each. The first is a dress/jumper and blouse pattern that doesn’t have a date on it. My guess is it’s late 1940s, early 1950s (as the original price is less than the other pattern I got). It looks like a fairly simple dress to make.

The second is a blouse pattern from 1957 that’s “easy to sew.” Overall, I have fewer blouse patterns than dresses and skirts, so I thought this one might be nice to have. I like all the blouse versions and could see this being a very useful pattern.

Next, I got some silky purple fabric for $2.99. It’s been cut to an odd size, 22.5 inches wide by 4 yards long. I liked the floral pattern that’s fairly subtle, and thought the rich color could be flattering on me.

I also got a black short-sleeved Ann Taylor turtleneck sweater for $5.99. Truthfully, I don’t look at this sweater and think it’s particularly special. I bought it because I thought it could be useful. I don’t have tons of sweaters and it’s a neutral color that I think will go well with many of my skirts.

And finally, I bought a patterned navy and white belt for 99 cents. It looks like it’s one of those belts that come free with a new pair of pants or shorts. I don’t really wear these kinds of belts (the kind with the metal loops for the belt to go through), but I thought I might be able to use it because I think the pattern is pretty cute.
