Thrifted for $6.81

I don’t need more books, but I love these The National Geographic Magazine pair of books about 1928. The covers are fantastic.

I suppose I could have just bought one of them, but I decided to buy both for $2 each.

The next three items I got for a total of $2.81 (because I paid by the pound). First up, this strainer I thought was cute.

I got this navy and white vest. My guess is that it’s from the 1970s (partly because of the style and partly because it was made in the U.S.A.—which indicates to me that it’s an older garment). I don’t really wear vests, but I liked the pattern and thought it was pretty cute.

I also got this pleated red and blue patterned skirt. When I initially saw it I almost tossed it aside, but I decided there was no harm in trying it on. And surprisingly I really liked it. I say surprisingly because I’m generally not much of a pattern person, but I like this colorful skirt.

Things I Didn’t Buy 17

Although it didn’t have a cover, I found what looked like a Life magazine from WWII. I had to take some photos of some of the ads in it. First is this Shell ad that states: “It’s sweeter because of petroleum.” Really?

I just thought the illustration on this Ductillite ad was interesting.

This Prem ad shows ways to dress up your canned ham.

Very patriotic-looking International Trucks ad.

I tend the find cigarette ads rather fascinating because the perception of cigarettes are so different today than they once were. Here’s a Lucky Strike cigarette ad.

$13.50 at an Estate Sale

At an estate sale, I was walking around and initially saw this Slide-n-cut and thought it was cool. I looked around the sale for quite some time, and eventually found my way back to it and decided I just had to get it and got it for $1.50.

I also got this Brownsville wool green blanket for $4.

At another estate sale, I bought these cute Fire King baking dishes for $3 each. I couldn’t resist. I had seen the round baking dish at a thrift store for $8 and had decided not to get it (as I bought a different dish instead). So I was pretty happy to get two dishes for under that $8 price.

And finally, I bought these four glass bowls for $2.

Things I Didn’t Buy 16

Here are some interesting cookbooks I saw at an estate sale that I resisted in buying. First up, this Carnation’s Easy-Does-It Cookbook. Super cute cover.

Next were some Betty Crocker cookbooks. I liked this graphic cover.

An Outdoor Cook Book.

And a Cook Book for Boys and Girls.

And lastly, Simple German Cookery.

$20 at an Estate Sale

I went to an estate sale that had an overwhelming amount of stuff. My favorite item is this vintage Lewis tan purse that I got for $12. It’s so simple and cute.

I also got this sea foam green thin belt for $2. I think it will add a nice pop of color to outfits.

And I bought this navy and white Liberty Bell scarf for $2.

I couldn’t resist this forest green Union toolbox for $4. I didn’t need another toolbox (this is my third), but I just like toolboxes…I think I have a problem. [Sigh.]

Things I Didn’t Buy 15

I seriously considered buying this Handyman’s Book. It’s super cute and in the same family as one my cookbooks. I love the illustrations. But I decided not to because I knew I was never going to actually use this book.

I liked the drawing on this Scribble pad—so very 1960s.

This book cover was cute too.

I watched Perry Mason as a kid, so I had to take a photo of this book when I came across it. I didn’t know there were Perry Mason books (although I shouldn’t be surprised…).

I love old radios—they’re just so cool looking. I have absolutely no use for them, but I like looking at them. This one I particularly liked.
