DIY: Hex Nut Beads

I thought I create jewelry using hex nuts as beads. The easiest way is just to use the hex nuts as is and not paint them, but paint them if you want a pop of color.

SUPPLIES
  • Hex nuts
  • Paint (that’s waterproof)
  • Paint brush
  • Paint try

DIRECTIONS
— 1 —
Paint hex nuts with chosen color(s). Let dry. If necessary paint a second coat of paint and let dry.

— 2 —
Turn hex nut over and repeat Step 1.

— 3 —
String hex nuts on a cord or chain and add a clasp.

I used the Wire Rope Necklace from last week’s posting.

Warning: I bought several sizes of hex nuts, and although they were the same brand, the box I bought had a warning on it that the bags did not. The warning states: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. It doesn’t specify the chemicals used, but if this warning concerns you then just be aware when you’re buying metal hex nuts, or try finding a replacement for the metal hex nuts (e.g. plastic or ceramic ones), or don’t do this project.
