An Excuse to Shop

I’m used to overcast skies, sporadic (and yet still constant) rain and cool temperatures, so when summer officially begins with its heat, it tends to be a bit of a shock to me. Late last week summer finally began in full force, jumping from temperatures in the 70’s to the 90’s, which was hard for me to get adjusted to (because anything above 85 degrees melts any appreciation I might have for summer).

I like sunshine and warmth but despise heavy heat. So when temperatures rise, I’m drawn to any place cool, any place with air conditioning—which generally means any place you’re likely to spend money in. Hot weather is an excuse to go shopping, and I went to a few thrift shops in my attempt to be someplace cool.

The one thing I picked up that I thought was especially great was a wooden bobbin. I wish all bobbins looked like this one. I love that it’s made out of wood and love that the type is burned into the wood. It’s simple yet beautiful. I didn’t buy it because I needed it, but I thought I could repurpose it in someway (that I haven’t quite figured out yet).
