DIY: Button Tower Jewelry

I didn’t need it, but somehow I couldn’t resist buying a jar of buttons at Goodwill. They weren’t fancy buttons, but mostly just the flat two or four holed buttons used in shirts. I divided up the buttons according to their size and number of holes because I thought I’d try using the smaller ones for jewelry.

SUPPLIES

• Buttons (I used eleven 3/8 inch sized buttons)
• Wire
• Wire Cutters
• Round Nose Pliers
• Pliers
• Jump Rings
• Earring Hooks or Chain

DIRECTIONS

Cut a length of wire that is a couple of inches longer than twice the height of your buttons stacked.

Gently fold the wire in half.

Thread the buttons in the order you want them from bottom to top, putting each wire end through two different button holes. (If the button has four holes, make sure that the two holes you use are opposite to each other.)

When you get to the last button, use the round nose pliers to create a loop. Cut any excess wire. (I had about half an inch of excess wire that I tucked into a button hole, but you could just cut it short and press down the end.)

Take the other wire end and circle it around the first end snugly. Cut any excess wire and press end down. Button Tower complete.

Use jump rings to connect the loop on the Button Tower to earring hooks or chains or other Button Towers.

I don’t work with wire often, so my loops aren’t so pretty. (Sorry.) The wire at the bottom of the Button Tower probably has enough space to connect to a jump ring to (at least mine was). Alternatively, you could create loops at the top and bottom of the Button Tower so it may be easier to connect jump rings on both ends.
