Vintage Cigar Boxes

Recently while at a thrift shop, I bought three vintage cigar boxes that were each 99 cents. While I didn’t need them, I thought they were interesting so I bought them. I rationalized this purchase by telling myself that I would use two of them as packaging for gifts (which is both less expensive and more intriguing to look at than the new gift wrap found in stores…at least to me).

I think the three cigar boxes are each appealing in their own way. They’re all quite old and not in great condition (like they’ve been sitting in someone’s garage for decades accumulating dust; I tried wiping down the boxes although they were still quite grimy afterwards).

First up is the Train Master cigar box, which is the box in the best condition. I love the Mild Blend seal on the top that’s quite intricate and lovely to look at. I love the type burned into the wood at the front and the colorful paper (the only one left) on the side of the box.

The second one is the Currency cigar box, which is in the worst condition of all three (the lid is barely attached to the box). I love the type burned into the wood at the top and side. And I think the paper on the side and inside of the lid is quite beautiful.

Finally, the Rob Burns cigar box is the smallest box. Once again, I love the type that’s burned into the wood on the top. I also like that the paper on the sides of the box are more intact, as well as the blue tape to close the lid. The inside of the box interests me less than the other two because it’s a portrait, but it’s still pleasant-looking.

I can only image how beautiful these boxes must have looked when they were brand new. While I don’t smoke cigars, I can appreciate the boxes they came in—they are lovely.
