Things I Didn’t Buy 40

I love this 1940s dress pattern.

I thought this 1940s dress pattern was interesting.

I liked this reprinted 1935 sewing pattern of a cute suit and cape.

This 1950s blouse pattern was nice.

I thought this 1970s skirt and vest outfit was really cute.

I liked this peplum top pattern that seem like it’s from the 1980s. In particular, I like C version with the large puffy sleeves.

Things I Didn’t Buy 27

While thrift shopping I saw sewing patterns that I liked, but were either similar to patterns I already owned or decided I just didn’t need. First, I liked this dress pattern that looks to be from the 1960s. I think the collar on the center dress is interesting.

I liked this simple dress pattern; both the pencil skirt and wider skirt are quite cute.

This dress pattern is also quite simple, and really it’s the fabric they’re using in the illustration that makes it more interesting.

I liked this suit pattern—in particular the jacket detail is pretty cute.

And finally, I loved the cape in this pattern.

Tops and a Cape

I went on a thrift store shopping spree and bought quite a few clothing items for $32. My initial plan was to get some summer tops because I feel like I’m lacking in lightweight clothing options—I’m just drawn towards fall and winter clothing. I love anything warm and wool and my closet is definitely weighted towards those colder months.

I did have a bit of success. I got this navy sleeveless cotton shirt from The Limited (that still had the tags on it) for $4. It’s a short shirt so I think it’ll be best worn tucked into a skirt.

I also got this Banana Republic silk navy blouse for $8. I love the little buttons and the detail down the front.

I generally don’t wear clothing that’s brown and tan, but I got this shirt for $3.50. It’s an acceptable beige color that looks okay with my skin tone. Basically I thought it was a good neutral and I liked the fact that the fabric had some weight to it. It’s not a see-through shirt that I constantly seem to be surrounded by.

Next I got this red wool shirt for $3.50. I love the color red.

And I like the buttons down the back.

And finally, the item I was probably most excited about, a long (mid-shin length) gray wool cape. I’ve been wanting a cape for a while and considered making one (one day), but I happened to see this cape and decided to buy it. It was $13. It needs a little mending; one of the snaps is gone and the previous owner tried fixing a seam that still looks rather loose to me. I know it’s nearly summer, and while I do enjoy the sunshine, I’m looking forward to winter when I can wear all my cozy clothing.

Seven Sewing Patterns

I got some more sewing patterns; some of the patterns I didn’t see dates on, so I just ordered them in increasing costs.

The first is a dress and jacket pattern from 1966. I like the simplicity of the garments. I like the drawings of the dressed-up women.

The second is a wrap dress from 1974. It’s a half-size pattern for petite women. I think this looks like a fun and easy dress to make.

Next up is a skirt pattern that looks like it’s from the 1970s. The main reason I got it is because of the pockets. I’ve only done non-visible pockets and thought this might be a good pattern to try different pockets.

This Pucci dress pattern (that looks to be from the 1970s) is super simple. I like the ease of the dress.

I avoid knits, but I liked this shawl collar blouse and dress pattern from 1980.

Okay, when I saw this Oscar de la Renta top and skirt pattern, it clearly screamed 1980s. That top immediately reminded me of a Members Only jacket. But I think if it was a bit slimmer in the fitting, it could be pretty cute. Although I think the bow version is a bit odd.

Finally, my mom gave me this skirt and cape pattern from 1995. I’ve never had a cape before, but I think it could be fun to have one.
