DIY: Paper Chain Banner

I thought using paper circles and jump rings together could create a cute banner that could be hung on the wall for any event (e.g. birthday, baby shower, congratulations, etc.).

SUPPLIES

• Cardstock
• Circle punch (mine is 2 inches in diameter)
• Scalloped circle punch (mine is 1 inch in diameter)
• Hole punch (1/16 inch size)
• 10mm jump rings
• 6mm jump rings
• Pliers
• Removable double-sided tape (or glue for permanent stick)
• Pen/Marker
• Letter stencil (optional)

 DIRECTIONS

Punch the number of circles you need for your word(s) with the circle punch. (For me, I punched 14 circles for “Happy Birthday”.) Repeat the same number of punched circles with the scalloped punch.

With the stencil and pen, draw an individual letter of your word(s) on each scalloped circle. (Alternatively, you can just write a letter freehand on the circles or use letter stamps to stamp each letter.)

Adhere each scalloped circle to each circle with removable double-sided tape. (Note: If you want to reuse the circle chain in the future, then using double-sided removable tape allows you to change the letters without having to break apart the chain. If this is only a one-time use banner, then use glue to keep the letters in place.)

Punch 1/16 inch holes on either side of the circle.

With an open 10mm jump ring, put it through a circle’s hole (that’s the first letter in your word) and thread a closed 6mm jump ring onto it as well. Close 10mm jump ring.

With a second open 10mm jump ring, thread through the 6mm jump ring and a second circle’s hole (make sure it’s the next letter in your word). Close 10mm jump ring.

(Note: Make sure that the jump rings are tightly closed so that they don’t slide out of the cardstock.)

Continue joining each circle with jump rings and making sure the order of the letters are correct as you go. Paper Chain Banner complete. Hang on wall.
