It’s that time of year when the clouds roll in and rain falls down and you want something cozy wrapped around you—like a scarf. I do love scarves, and I wanted one that was a bright pop of color (and was desperately in need of a nice red one). Last year I bought red yarn on sale for about a dollar a skein (which then sat in a drawer waiting to be used). With the shift in weather, I finally got motivated to use this yarn for a new scarf.
As I have yet to master any knitting skills (besides a knit
and purl stitch), I wanted a super easy pattern that was repetitive in nature
and would work well with my bulky yarn. I thought a simple and bold pattern
would work best, and looking over a knitting book I found a mistake rib pattern
that just required me to K2 P2 over an uneven number of stitches. I liked the
texture and directional nature of the pattern and decided I would try it for my
scarf.
So I spent this past week knitting my new scarf. For me,
it’s great knitting in the evening with the TV on in the background. Most of
the television shows on TV aren’t really worth giving my full attention to, so
I like being able to do something else while half paying to the TV (as it helps
to ease my guilt over keeping up with TV shows that aren’t really that great).
My finished scarf used two skeins for the body of the scarf
and part of the third skein for the fringe. I’m happy with the color and length
of the scarf, and I think the fringe gives it a nice swing and textural
difference. Once if gets a bit colder I think I’ll get some good use out of my
inexpensive little red scarf.
