Stay Dry

Last week a couple of friends and I went to Modern Domestic’s anniversary party/monogram dish towel mini-class. I’d never monogrammed anything before, but it’s a pretty simple process of inputting information into the machine and then letting it whip out the chosen monogram.

The hardest part for me was deciding what three letters to use for the monogramming. I didn’t want to use my initials (since I didn't find that particularly interesting), so I needed a three-letter word that was appropriate. They had some cute examples, like “tea” and “eat” (which I considered), and “yum” was in the running as well, but I finally decided on “dry.” No one else had done “dry” yet, and I liked that it matched the purpose of the towel.

Then came some easier decision-making. They had five thread colors to choose from: red, deep pink, light mustard, pea green and black; I went for the traditional black. I also decided on the longer fancier brackets rather than the simpler triangular ones. The machine then did all the hard work of monogramming, and the impatient person in me appreciated how quickly it can be done (mine only took 8 minutes to complete). Instant gratification. And I really like my finished towel—it’s super cute and usable.
